What is the issue?
Over the last year, Foyer’s giveusachance campaign has been highlighting the need for young people aged 16 25 to have access to learning, training, housing and support to help them live as independent adults.
There’s a big demand for Foyer services:
- There are 1.1million young people aged between 16 and 24 in the U.K. who are not in education, employment or training (NEET)
- The 25% of people who drop out of post-16 education in the UK are those least likely to re-enter or get well-paid jobs
- 77,000 young people run away from home every year, predominantly girls. 80% run away because of family problems
- each year, 9,000 young offenders are placed in unsuitable accommodation, such as bed and breakfast
