When I first moved into Sunderland YMCA Foyer in 2003 my life was upside down. I had really bad issues such as alcohol problems. I was experimenting with drugs and getting in trouble with the police. I rejected all help, hated people caring and loving me, every other agency I’d been refused help with them saying that I was too much hard work.
The YMCA Foyer stayed with me through thick and thin. I realised they weren’t going to go away. I stopped trying to push them away – they were too strong! I let them in slowly and they helped me with my illness. In 2005 they moved me into my own property with an outreach worker….who is really great.
